There is no doubt Daniel Kasso would tower over most people he meets. He is a giant of a man. Originally from Hungary, Daniel has a passion for cooking that more than matches his stature. Quite how he came to be Head Chef at the Bell Inn, Beachampton; is a story in itself.
His love for cooking has seen him serve food on river ships that travelled through Belgium, France and Germany. His next job saw him work on a US Army base in Germany before he was asked to move to Russia. He ran a Hungarian restaurant some 160 kilometres from Moscow. His desire to work in an English pub and cook food more akin to his style saw him join The Bell in 2015.
First of all we asked Daniel what’s the best thing about being a Chef? Without a moment’s hesitation he replied, “This is what I trained for. This is what I love doing. You can feel your passion, feel your happiness in just an instant as someone takes a bite of your food. You instantly see from their face whether they like what you are serving them.”
From speaking to Daniel it seems like he is almost the ideal fit for The Bell. He is not a lover of what you might call ‘fancy food’. Therefore, you definitely won’t find any flowers on his dishes. He loves to serve simple, traditional dishes cooked to the very best of his ability. Most of all, he believes flavour is more important than how the dish looks – yet MK Select can confirm the food is certainly not lacking in the presentation department. Really good flavoursome food is what he strives for.

So what does he make of Milton Keynes? “I love it here” he said. “People really seem to appreciate what I do, and just as importantly, my boss does too!” Daniel clearly loves English cuisine and really good pies and stews are among his favourites but he states that “Wherever I have been, duck leg is always on the menu. It’s a real favourite of mine.” As it turns out, the Slow Cooked Aylesbury Duck Leg, Garlic Cream Potatoes, Roasted Carrot and Red Wine Sauce is a favourite of ours too!
Daniel, like most Chefs; possesses an air of confidence about what he does and the food he serves. I sampled his Swordfish, on a creamy mushroom ragu, new potatoes and pak choi. Finally, I simply asked, “Swordfish. This can be a difficult fish to cook just right can’t it?” His reply with a smile was “Maybe for you!”

For those of you who have yet to visit The Bell Inn, Beachampton, you will probably be surprised as to how close it is to Central Milton Keynes. It’s also just over two and a half miles from Stony Stratford. In conclusion, we highly recommend a visit!
